Our former accompanist: Mr Martyn Ridge

Cwmbran Baroque has been so fortunate to have had the dedicated work of Martyn Ridge as accompanist for so many years. Martyn retired in 2023 from accompanying the choir but remained with us, singing as a tenor. He has now decided that his days as a singer must also come to an end. We wish him well in his retirement and will certainly miss his contributions to choir life, whether as accompanist, tenor, Treasurer or friend. Martyn is now a Life Member of the choir.
He began his musical career with piano and organ lessons as a child, passing grade 8 with distinction. This won him a scholarship to the Royal School of Music, but a career in Lloyds Bank beckoned.
He has held posts of Organist and Choirmaster at various churches from age 14 including All Saints, Newport; St Mark’s, Newport and St Mary’s, Abergavenny. Martyn is currently Organist and Choirmaster at St Denys Lisvane, Cardiff, where he directs a strong and thriving church choir.
