Summer Songs at Newport Cathedral
On Saturday 14th June we sang our concert as part of the regular Midday Series at Newport Cathedral, St Woolos.
We sang a selection of music, both sacred and secular.
- Mathias - Lift up your head, O ye gates
- Bruckner - Locus Iste
- Hewitt-Jones - Can you hear me?
- Lassus - O la, o che buon eco
- Hagenberg - Alleluia
- Kern - The way you look tonight
- Bernstein - West Side Story medley (arr. Thomas)
As usual, the pieces covered a range of historical times, from the sixteenth century to the twenty-first, and a range of moods, from the most reflective and sombre to the most light-hearted and cheerful.
It was wonderful to sing in the cathedral. This concert provided a particularly good opportunity for an audience to appreciate our accompanist, Gaynor Smith, who plays for the choir so well.
Those who came along said how much they had enjoyed our musical offering in the lovely setting of this very welcoming and beautiful cathedral.
