End of term 2024-25

What a brilliant, busy year Cwmbran Baroque Singers have had!

The last rehearsal of term was on Wednesday 2nd July at our usual venue, Richmond Road Baptist Church, Pontnewydd, Cwmbran. The church very kindly allows us to use the hall every week during term time and it is an excellent venue.

We spent the first half of the rehearsal singing some new pieces, Exsultate Justi by Viadana, Shenandoah and You are the New Day in arrangements by Bob Chilcott and The King's Singers, Who is Sylvia and It was a Lover and his Lass, arranged by George Shearing and an arrangement of Chattanooga Choo-choo.

Those pieces were not all entirely new to the repertoire, but it is certainly a long time since the longer established members of the choir had the chance to sing them.

Unusually for such a very dedicated choir (!), the second half of the final rehearsal together was spent more informally, sampling the cakes and treats that various members of the choir had so kindly prepared and donated for us. Soft drinks or Prosecco were available and it was a delight simply to chat among ourselves.

Finally, to send us happily on our way for the Summer, we toasted and sang Happy Birthday to two members of choir who were due to celebrate a landmark birthday during the next few days. We shan't embarrass you by doing the arithmetic, but Happy Birthday to you, Martyn and Jo. You wear your years very lightly.
